“Matilda is my Grandma. She migrated from Jamaica to England in 1962. Now all of her memories have faded, I need to remember for her, for me, for us…”
Recent winner of a Contact Flying Solo commission, Bristol-based but Manchester-born Hartley is making a return to the city of her birth with this very personal story of her grandma’s journey from Jamaica to England in 1962 and its impact on her family and her own life some fifty years later. Developed in Jamaica, Matilda and Me uses storytelling, autobiography, dub poetry and reggae to explore the complexities of British cultural identity.
Matilda and Me is at STUN Studio (at Z-arts in Hulme) on Thursday 25 June at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £5/3 and can be booked online or via 0161 232 6089.
