Dramaturgy Boiler: Rachel Jackson @ Edfringe 2017

Rachel Jackson’s debut stand up show “Bunny Boiler’ will be at the Pleasance Courtyard Bunker 1 for the month of August for tickets go to www.edfringe.com

What was the inspiration for this performance?

I was dumped once and called a Bunny Boiler by someone who I genuinely thought was lucky to have me. I thought I'd try turning the term Bunny Boiler on its head and make people fall in love with the Bunny Boiler! Like its fun mad, not lock up your rabbits mad.

Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?

Of course it is. Especially if it’s relatable and not wanky.

How did you become interested in making performance?

I felt I would be sectioned if I didn't get out what’s inside of me in a reasonably healthy way. You can be mad through art and not be judged as harshly.

Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?

Just writing and writing and writing and trying bits out at comedy shows and ditching bits that don't work and adding or keeping bits that do. You learn so much from every gig and its bloody addictive too.

Does the show fit with your usual productions?

I do specialise in comedy. I just like to laugh and have fun and make people happy. It sounds sweet and light but I need it like air so its not that healthy when you think about it. I'm obsessed with my career. Everyday I like to achieve something in my day that will take me closer to the place I want to be. Obsession and hard work is good when you're making a show though!

What do you hope that the audience will experience?

Laughter of course. I'm also often told I'm weird but oddly I hear a lot of laughs when I'm performing as if the audience themselves are relating. It’s a good feeling. Knowing you are joined by fellow freaks.

What strategies did you consider towards shaping this audience experience?

Handing out personalised cookies saying 'Please Love Me' but then remembering I'm not Sarah Palin.
