What was the inspiration for this performance?

I wanted to create something that people could identify with and instinctively know the role of the audience in an immersive experience. Most people have experienced a wedding reception or have at least seen what happens

Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?

Yes, particularly more so in an immersive piece where you can watch and interact with the audience reactions.

How did you become interested in making performance?

I have grown up in theatre, and it has always been a part of my creative thinking.

Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?

In an immersive piece like this, it is always about creating the show from the perspective of the audience experience. It is a journey for them just as much as it is telling a story.

Does the show fit with your usual productions?

Yes, I believe that theatre can be a wonderful stress reliever when the audience is allowed to freely laugh and enjoy themselves.

What do you hope that the audience will experience?

An incredible, fun 2 hours of laughter, mayhem and food as well.

What strategies did you consider towards shaping this audience experience?

We wanted the audience to experience a roller-coaster journey that they completely believed in, so everything that we have created is completely within the realms of possibility … not all would happen at the same wedding reception though, as in this experience, but that is what theatre enables – the suspension of disbelief.

The Wedding Reception transports audiences to the kind of party most of us have been to, where worry over meeting strangers becomes fully-fledged fun. There’s even a 3-course sit-down meal – and dancing! So join the party. It’s a 2-hour comedy that’s immersive, highly improvised, and as interactive as the audience wants it to be, a rollercoaster ride full of fun, frolics… and more than a few surprises!

The Wedding Reception is an original piece devised, written and produced by Interactive Theatre International, the people behind Faulty Towers The Dining Experience

It features four actors in multiple roles; the cast at Edinburgh Fringe 2017 features Stacey Evans, Phil Oakland, Dave Tremaine and Rebecca Norris.

The Wedding Reception is a new show devised, scripted and produced by ITI. - Alison is also the show’s director, and has led ITI (and Faulty Towers The Dining Experience) since its start in 1997.

- The show had its Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2015, appearing again in 2016. It’s back in 2017 with a full season throughout August, again appearing in the fabulous 4-star luxury of Principal Edinburgh (formerly The George Hotel).
