Oh, I can't keep this up. Doom is speaking the words of our Prime Minister.
Is it just me, or is this a statement that implies 'the state' has the right to interfere in my life, even if I don't break the law in any way? And where is the dividing line between 'we' and 'citizens'?
This also sounds terribly socialist.
I am trying to put this into context. Cameron sounds like he is pissed up, his attention caught between getting in another round and putting the world to rights in front of a bird he's trying to impress. Look at this beauty...
It’s often meant we have stood neutral between different values. And that’s helped foster a narrative of extremism and grievance.
“This government will conclusively turn the page on this failed approach. As the party of one nation, we will govern as one nation and bring our country together. That means actively promoting certain values.
“Freedom of speech. Freedom of worship. Democracy. The rule of law. Equal rights regardless of race, gender or sexuality.
“We must say to our citizens: this is what defines us as a society.”
The bit in bold? Yes, like it... but I don't get how prosecuting people for having opinions extends freedom of speech.
And who is this 'we' he keeps talking about? 'The party of One Nation' he mentions? Look, I have started taking my medication again: is this a side effect, the inability to make sense of David Cameron's speeches?
