STRICTLY COME DANCING THE LIVE TOUR

the judge bloke
Never let it be said that I let my own taste dictate my churnalism. I never liked Strictly Come Dancing until I saw an episode a few weeks ago.

Now I hate it for the trivial waste of BBC time and money that it is. Perhaps if I had caught it during the golden years, when That One With the Chin was the host, I would regard it less as a piss-stain on the aesthetic unitard of dance.

However, it is touring, and maybe the aura of liveness will add the drama that it lacks on the shit-pump. Liveness is usually the reason people say they like going to theatre, which they then describe as the possibility that something might go wrong.

Usually, I think that's a stupid justification for going to the theatre.

STRICTLY COME DANCING  THE LIVE TOUR
RETURNS FOR A FAB-U-LOUS EIGHTH YEAR
16 JANUARY – 8 FEBRUARY 2015
As BBC One’s smash hit entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing returns to our TV screens this month, like that bout of chlamydia that just won't respond to treatment, tickets for the 2015 Strictly Come Dancing Live UK Tour will go on sale from 9am on Monday 29 September 2014.

Audiences will experience Strictly’s glitz, glamour and breathtaking choreography in this super sized arena spectacular as some of the celebrities and professional dancers from the hugely anticipated twelfth BBC series take to the dance floor to recreate their dazzling moves. Audiences will flock to the show hoping that one of them will slip over at some point. Details of celebrities appearing on tour will be announced over the next few months, depending on which ones don't have anything better to do, I suppose.

The judges will be offering their invaluable wisdom and all important scores, featuring the am-a-zing Craig Revel Horwood, who is directing the live show for the fifth year running, presuming his role in Annie isn't too time consuming, I guess. As well as competing for the judges’ scores, the celebrities and their dance partners will vie for votes from the audience, who can text vote via their mobile phones and ultimately decide who wins the prized Glitterball Trophy at each performance. It's a bit like democracy, only even more disappointing and less of a mockery of human empowerment.

The 31 show spectacular will open at The NIA, Birmingham on 16 January 2015. The tour will then visit some of the biggest entertainment venues across the UK: The Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, Leeds’ First Direct Arena, Manchester’s Phones 4u Arena, the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena, The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Liverpool’s Echo Arena, The SSE Arena in Wembley before culminating at The O2 Arena, London on 8 February.

The tour has received rave reviews in the national newspapers since it began in 2008 – the Daily Mail heaped praise on the 2014 production in a glowing 4 Star review and the Daily Telegraph said: “Lose yourself in Strictly’s stylishly choreographed wonderland”. The Mail on Sunday have previously said of the tour: “Pure Strictly magic, and as good as it gets.”

Last December a peak audience of 12.5 million viewers tuned in to watch the nail-biting Strictly final on BBC One, when model Abbey Clancy was crowned the winner in the first ever all female final and contemporary dance fans realised that there is no god. The television format, also known as Dancing With The Stars, is one of the most successful TV formats ever created and has been sold into over 50 countries around the world.
