SINGLEMARRIEDGIRL in the Dragons' Den

Tasty Monster Productions’ SINGLEMARRIEDGIRL is Headed to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival...Again!

Partners in Work and Life Heather Bagnall and Luke Tudball Prepare for the Long Journey Across the Pond for a Second Time Due to Popular Demand

“What do you do when you're ‘happily’ married and yet completely alone? Anything you can think of!”  That is how playwright Heather Bagnall describes her original work SINGLEMARRIEDGIRL, a one woman show.

Heather, an Annapolis, Maryland native and long-time actress, arts advocate and teaching artist talks about the long and winding road to the Royal Mile, for herself, her husband, and their exciting new company.

So how does it feel to be accepted to the largest fringe festival in the world for a second time?

It feels great…and utterly terrifying. Truth to tell, when we brought the show to the festival last year it was the largest thing we had ever done both as producers and as a company. This year is going to be no different! It’s really an amazing challenge and an amazing opportunity for us. The festival teaches you a lot and inspires you to be better, and I am very proud of what we are bringing to the stage at Greenside (Nicolson Square). It’s great to be performing at this excellent new venue!

So why the Edinburgh Fringe?
Because it’s the biggest fringe festival in the world. It’s the scariest and the most challenging, but also the most rewarding. It’s good to challenge yourself and put your work into a critical environment and learn from those experiences. Change is always good, and for a young company like ours, learning is essential so that we may continue to raise our expectations and those of everyone around us. But more than anything, we have a story worth sharing; a story which resonates with a broad audience and we are excited to see how it continues to engage an international audience.

And what has changed for you since last Fringe?
So many things! The highlights were that we got married, which was amazing, and we took SINGLEMARRIEDGIRL and our new show, Ferdinand, to the inaugural Pittsburgh Fringe Festival, winning two awards. We have been writing and traveling and teaching and being inspired by wonderful theatre and by fantastic people.

We're going to be hosting two staged readings of Ferdinand at the Fringe - Ferdinand: Bull In A China Shop - at the unique Adam Pottery, and we are very excited about that. The show stars Luke Tudball, and is directed by myself (Heather Bagnall). It’s, as always, going to be a little crazy, but that’s part of what makes Edinburgh so brilliant!

SINGLEMARRIEDGIRL will appear at Greenside Venue, Nicolson Square in Edinburgh, Scotland, from August 11-23 at 12:40 pm (11th-16th) and 3 pm (18th-23rd). Duration: 50 minutes. Ferdinand will be read at the Adam Pottery on August 12th and 19th at 6:30 pm (duration 50 minutes)

And over to our dragons....

I like her enthusiasm. Seems like she has got a real love of life going on there. When I became a Buddhist, I had a very different attitude to change that she has - it is inevitable, but the cause of all suffering, so it is nice to see a young lady grabbing life with both hands.

I'd probably find her a bit much in real life - she seems like the kind of person who wouldn't mind getting caught in a battle between me and MODOK, but I reckon fifty minutes would keep her a caper.

I'll tell you what, pal. She don't seem to have the right attitude to get ahead in the Fringe. She's too fun, too whacky. What you need in the Fringe is a coupla good pictures and really serious sob-story - like on the X-Factor, only true. I reckon Greenside's a nice venue - good place for a cup of tea if the sun's out, and she offers a balance of comedic highlights and sensible life-lessons. She's got something, but can she make it pay in a notoriously brutal Edinburgh August?
