Platforms, Workshops, GSA and that

Before I disappear into The Arches for a day of fun and film, a couple of previews worth giving a shout. I am impressed with the continued updates from Inky Fingers, who are constantly reminding me that the spoken word scene is vibrant in Edinburgh - they have a workshop on rejection, which I probably ought to attend - if not lead, it being my specialist subject - but they also have a note on The SPEAKeasy Performers Group bi-monthly meeting.

Here's their description of how this works.

Every month a group of writers meets in a cosy café to perform their work. Each member emails in advance to sign up (so it’s a different group every time), brings a piece of writing with them, and on the day we take turns performing our work aloud and giving feedback.

To attend for a session, just drop us an email.

Come along on the night, and we will listen to each performance and chat about it. (Let us know if you’re not going to be able to attend, so that we can make your space available to someone else.) Bring wine! Bring words! Bring a notepad! Bring your wonderful mind!

The discussion is really informal, so don’t feel you have to be an authority on performance criticism, or, well, on anything.

Of course, you probably won't be an expert on performance criticism, so it is just as well that they added that. But if you do want to become an expert on criticism, I am offering classes, on a Tuesday Night, at Tramway.

An exhibition by The Glasgow School of Art final year students

Pheobe Amis, Justyna Ataman & Aleksandra Roch, Gordon Douglas, Carrie Gooch, Jamie Kane, Kenyersel, Amy Pickles and Louis Skehal

Opening: Thursday 21 February 2013 from 4pm to 8pm

including performances and film screenings throughout the evening

TILT  is  an exhibition of numerous site specific works created by final year students from The Sculpture and Environmental Art Dept. at The Glasgow School of Art. It is out at Platform, a venue that makes up for being difficult to reach (it is in Easterhouse), by having an invention programme, a library and a swimming pool.

Promising to "engage with the users of Platform and The Bridge in a variety of different ways, by exhibiting pieces of art works in unusual locations within the building; challenging our expectations and perceptions of visual art," the Environmental Art Course has built up a reputation for being one of the more interesting schools in Glasgow, feeding the broader community mash-ups that have seen visual art get involved with society, put on gigs, make public art works and all that carry-on described in Social Sculpture.
