What was the inspiration for this performance?
We’ve been gigging together for about 10 years now and these days we write about what makes us laugh, which usually seems to work with the audience too. Also pandas.
Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?
That sounds like a question that should be brought up in a public discussion of ideas, potentially through performance. (also yes)
How did you become interested in making performance?
We became interested in making performance during high school, when Harry started rapping and I started playing guitar and singing. Since then we’ve written loads of tunes and we’ve enjoyed making performance ever since. I think these days we have to ask ourselves if we make performance or if performance makes us, or if performance makes us make performance.
Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?
Something will come up in either of our lives which we find funny, and either we’ll bring it to the other person straight away, or we’ll write a few lines for a chorus or verse, then bring it to the other person. After that we just play around and have fun with the idea until it becomes a fully-fledged song.
Does the show fit with your usual productions?
This is The Harry and Chris Show 2, and it does bear resemblance to The Harry and Chris Show, mainly in the fact that it is performed by Harry and Chris.
What do you hope that the audience will experience?
Joy!
